ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, Textiles and Material Culture, UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN

Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design, University of Nebraska-Lincoln

The Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design seeks a 9-month tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the social, historical and cultural dimensions of textiles and apparel, including but not limited to quilt studies, artifact analysis, collections management, and critical theory as relevant to the material culture of textiles and apparel. Participate in curriculum development and develop new/innovative courses, including courses for online delivery, in area(s) of expertise. Pursue a scholarly research program with proven interdisciplinary potential, leading to publications and to the generation of internal as well as external funding support. Supervise graduate students and their research endeavors. Participate in service to the department, the college, and the university. Participate in both undergraduate and graduate recruitment activities. Nurture relationships with material culture specialists both internal to the university as well as external.

Contribute, as an effective scholar and citizen of a land-grant institution, to the integrated mission of home units (e.g. department, center), including supporting student recruitment and IANR initiatives, and beyond. Additional responsibilities of the academic appointment are to participate in recruitment and retention activities and teaching outcomes assessment, instructional improvement and teaching scholarship.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in material culture studies, history, ethnography, cultural resources management, digital history, or material culture theory
• Identified research direction with interdisciplinary/collaborative record of accomplishment in one or more of the following areas: quilt studies, textile and/or costume history, material culture and/or digital history
• Evidence of scholarly activities commensurate with rank
• Computer and technological literacy and a commitment to integrate technology into scholarship and teaching
• 2-3 years teaching experience at the university level

Preferred Qualifications:
• Textiles and apparel expertise
• Experience in face-to-face, blended and virtual classroom environments
• Research program collaboratively linked to active researchers in related disciplines
