Fashion establishes itself as a discipline also going through different fields and trying to overcome physical and cultural boundaries. Consequently, the academic study of fashion engages the theoretical and practical methodologies of various disciplines.

“Fashion Across Boundaries” brings together PhD students who work in the domain of fashion with a variety of approaches including design, history, economy, geography, anthropology, and sociology. The workshop will provide an opportunity for the exchange of new researches; papers that investigate the idea of ‘boundary’ in fashion from different perspectives are warmly welcomed.

Topics may be historic or contemporary in focus and may include issues related but not limited to:

  •      Gender, sexuality, and identity
  •      Fashion and image
  •      Body/Dress
  •      National and geographical borders
  •      Handicraft and industry
  •      High and low technologies
  •      Design/Fashion
  •      The boundaries of academic research
