Call for Papers:


Culture Costume and Dress
Multi-disciplinary Conference
Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities, Birmingham City University

10th – 12th May 2017


This multi-disciplinary, international conference will explore the nature of dress as it relates to, responds to, and influences culture. Through presentations, poster, panel discussions and performance, the conference will consider the many aspects of costume and dress, exploring their inter-connections and reflecting on their significance. It will include an exhibition of costume and other artefacts that articulate the conference themes.

We invite submissions from any discipline for academic papers, posters, performance pieces and contributions to the exhibition. Topics include, but are not restricted to:

-      Dress and material culture

-      Fashion and its cultural significance

-      Clothing and diversity

-      Dress and adornment: jewellery, shoes and accessories

-      Costume in history

-      Costume in art

-      Costume in literature

-      Costume and performance

-      Costume and technology
